Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of WearEver Premium Hard-Anodized 12-Inch Saute PanCustomer Review: fine all around non-stick pan Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this pan over a year ago (yes, based on the Cooks Illustrated review.) I cook almost everyday with this pan. I saute vegetables, fry omelets, cook quick pasta sauces and even brown meat in it.
The basics: It is 12" in diameter at the top of the rim and tapers down to a 9" diameter cooking surface. The sides are 1 7/8" high. It is a little heavy for a non-stick pan but easy to handle.
It has met all of my expectations and more. Expectations met:
1) even heating
2) easy clean up
3) Durable non stick coating, no damage evident to date (I don't use
metal utensils with it and I do hand wash it because of the size.)
4) comfortable handle
Expectations exceded:
1) I didn't expect fond! I really do brown steaks and pork chops in this
pan and develop enough fond for a nice au jus, not enough for
gravy but this is a non-stick pan after all.
2) I really like the handle. It is a hollow, brushed stainless steel tube
that is shaped with an oval bulge for you to grip so that when you
lift the pan full of food it is easy to control. The handle is securely
riveted in two places through a piece of stainless steel on the
outside of the pan, through the wall of the pan, to prevent any stress
cracking or wear. It even has a hole in the end so that you can hang
it on a rack.
3) Between the quality non stick coating and the sturdy construction I
expect many years of use out of this pan. I like the fact that I wont
be adding to the land fill on a regular basis and wont be eating
flecks of coating either.
The only negative I could think of for this pan is that it is messy to pour from. I usually use a large spoon or tongs to remove food from it.
Bottom line, if you want a 12" non stick pan, get this one.
