My mom passed away after having Alzheimer for 14 years and my daughter wants her Mirro 12-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker/Canner which, of course, I am very happy to give to her. I am purchasing anything to go with it that will help her and her husband in their canning endeavors. Mom was from TN and was an excellent canner and did it all of her life until the Alzheimers took away her ability to do so. I, unfortunately, never had the time or desire to learn how to do it. My question to all of you expert canners is - is there supposed to be one of those "wire baskets" with a handle that the cans set in that you can lift the jars up out of the water with? I bought one and it literally is the same exact size as the opening of the canner and won't go down in it. I enjoy buying little stuff like that as gifts for my daughter but I'm not real sure that this particular pressure canner takes one. It already has the thing that sets on the bottom with the holes in it that you can take out - whatever that is called. You can tell I have absolutely no idea what I am talking about... I am in IL and I mailed the instruction booklet to my daughter in NC to make sure that this was the particular pressure canner she wanted because Mom had 5 canners and also 2 steamer things which we eventually figured out were for making jellies... I'm 61 years old and need my mom to explain this stuff to me but she's not here so I am hoping all of you can help me with this. Thank you for any help you can give me.
